The assignment consisted of 3 phases:
Extending the scope of the management role from that of a single service delivery to management of multiple projects/service delivery teams & resources management across these and other teams
Consolidation of the role and creation of sustainable multi-skilled teams
Hand over of the Project and Service management roles to in-house staff

The Services delivery consisted of:
An Accreditation Service to Suppliers of GP systems - this consisted of managing a team of accreditors who visited suppliers sites to carry out compliance testing of the applications system against a pre-defined functional requirement specification. On successful completion of the test, the system was 'accredited' and as a result the GPs could claim reimbursement of the cost of the system from the local Health Authority.
An Audit Service to Health Authorities - this consisted of managing a team of auditors who visited Health Authorities to carry out audits of Breast and Cervical Cytology Screening Programmes.
The Project Management consisted of:
Accreditation Test Pack & Service Development - this consisted of defining the Development Strategies and project level products, structures and flows; resource estimates and timescales, for input into the Project Initiation document. The project was subsequently handed over to an in-house full time Project Manager.
Year 2000 Information gathering - this consisted of managing a team of analysts gathering information from NHS suppliers on their readiness for the Year 2000, and making it available on the Internet. More specific analysis was carried out on key suppliers and GP suppliers.
Year 2000 Monitoring Returns - this consisted of managing a team of analysts providing facilities to Health Authorities and Trusts to monitor their readiness for the Year2000. Subsequent analysis was provided and reported back to Chief Executives and the Government on the overall readiness of the NHS.
The Project Consultancy consisted of:
Advising on PRINCE2 processes and procedures, and in particular on Project and Stage Planning (MSProject); Quality Management and Planning; and Project Assurance.
The Service and Project Support Management consisted of:
Managing a small team of co-ordinators and administrators who provided support to the Delivery of the Services and to the Projects. This included financial management of accounts.
The Resource Planning and Line Management consisted of:
Planning and managing resources across multiple project and service delivery teams. Making most effective use of their resources by developing multiple skills in order that they could work in multi-functional teams that became robust and responsive, sustainable and self- supporting. Responsibility was also taken for planning the use of resources that were outside the direct line management responsibility
